Dewayne Johnson was born October 27, 1956 to the late Emma and Thomas Johnson. He departed this life on November 12, 2020.
He grew up in Hazelwood, Pa. Dewayne got his education at Pittsburgh Public School. He was a maintenance man at Dollar Tree Distribution Center where he received “perfect attendance” every year he was there. Everyone knew Dewayne was not only going to be at work but be there ahead of time. He loved when the Steelers won, especially against the “Cowgirls” and loved it even more anytime the “Cowgirls” lost so he could go to work and rub it in their faces. The Steelers was not just football to him, but it was his life.
Dewayne married the love of his life on June 28, 1991. Dewayne was a great father, husband, grandfather and father figure to his extended nieces and nephews. He loved people and people loved him. Dewayne was truly musically talented and taught himself how to play the guitar. When he was free on Sundays, he wasted no time picking up his guitar and jamming out with the choir which earned him the name “guitar man.” Another nickname he earned while working throughout the years was rightfully given to him by coworkers for sharing the same name as another person named Dewayne Johnson “The Rock.” If You Smell What the Rock Is Cooking.”
He was preceded in death by his parents Emma and Thomas Johnson, five brothers, Kenneth, Tyrone, Celvin and Keith Johnson and Vern Thompson.
Dewayne is survived by his wife Veronica Johnson, four children, Dion Carter, Danielle Lane, Desmond Hardy and Latoya (Frank) Easton, six grandchildren, four brothers, Lamount Johnson (Kim), Timothy Johnson, Donald Johnson and Terry Love, four sisters Arlet Thompson, Yvonne Whitesides (Joseph Sr.) Pamela Legrand (Steve) and Aretha Jackson, Aunt Pam Collins and Alicia Banks, special nieces and nephews Mary, Tiffany, Fantasia, John, Jordane and Billy Jackson, goddaughter Elder Anitra Woody, a hosts of other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
