Herman Joseph Hamilton
Mr. Herman Hamilton was born on October 25, 1925 in Rutherford County to the late John C. Hamilton and Eva Wilkins. He departed this life on October 17, 2019 in the comfort of his home in Rutherfordton, NC.
Herman was a devoted member of New Salem AME Methodist Church where he had accepted Christ at an early age and served as a Deacon in later years.
As a young man Herman attended Carver High School before joining the United States Army in 1944 where he served 2 years in Korea, and 6 years stateside in the reserves. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1952 with Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medial, 3 Bronze Stars. After the military Herman became the head of custodian at R.S. Central High School where he dedicated 20 years of service before discontinuing employment. He dedicated another 20 years of service to Fairfield Mountains as a security guard where he later retired.
Herman is preceded in death by 3 brothers, John Arthur (Katie) Hamilton, Dewey Dewitt (Elisabeth) Hamilton, Tyrone Mills (Eleanor) Hamilton, and a sister Aileen (Gene) Lathan.
Herman leaves to cherish sister-in-law Eleanor Hamilton of Washington, DC, beloved nephew James Hamilton of Rutherfordton, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
